Friends! Friends and family and lovers and readers! I have failed you. When this trip was planned, I promised a steady stream of updates on this platform. Until today, there have been ZERO updates here. There were a lot of unanticipated elements, including but not limited to: time to write, the space to do so, and the actual equipment necessary! I feel silly. And sorry.
I’ve been scribbling down notes in my phone as a loosey-goosey journal in the meantime, but my grand fantasy of this space as a constantly updated log was unrealistic.
Please know this: The Everything’s Relative Roadtrip is going GREAT. Everyone we meet is so kind and generous, above and beyond with their hospitality, their vulnerability, and their time. Camping in the van is fun and hard and exciting and dirty, and we’re learning a lot about different campsite facilities, what we need, and how to pivot. Long drives are terrible, so we’re talking a lot about how to adjust the schedule to minimize their necessity. Having Averil and Emilia along with us has quickly proved itself to be INVALUABLE.
My personal journey, so far, has been more excruciating than driving through Nevada with faulty air conditioning. (Terrible metaphor.) There’s a lot happening inside me that I’m struggling to describe with words. It’s thoughts, and its feelings, and it’s a collision of identity, history, truth, and secrets. I cannot wait to tell you all about it, and know it will take many passes and mediums to describe this experience accurately. And it will evolve as it settles, so I am sure I will describe it again and again.
Thank you for supporting me all this time, through it all. If you’d like to follow more closely along, my instagram account is the place to go: @everythingsrelativepodcast ; I am able to upload more on that platform (from my phone!)
